Belt Progress and Advancement

Our style offers a systematic method of student development and progress measured by colored belts. Tri City Martial Arts instructors will guide the willing student through the intense training required to achieve the rank of "black belt."



White Belt(Gup 10)
Every student begins his or her journey with the white belt. A white belt is introduced to the different techniques such as the strikes, kicks and stances. After learning the basic movements, the white belt is taught the first form of the system-- Kicho 1(basic) pattern.

Orange Belt(Gup 9)
Required Form: Palgwe 1. Sparring: 2 Sparring Classes, One Kick, Two Kick and Three Kick Counters

Orange/Black Stripe(Gup 8)
Required Form: Palgwe 2. Sparring: 4

Green Belt(Gup 7)
Required Form: Palgwe 3. Sparring: 6

Green/Black Stripe(Gup 6)
Required Form: Palgwe 4. Sparring: 8

Blue Belt(Gup5)
Required Form: Palgwe 5. Sparring: 10

Blue/Black Stripe(Gup 4)
Required Form: Palgwe 6. Sparring: 12

Red Belt(Gup 3)
Required Form: Palgwe 7. Sparring: 14

Red/Black Stripe(Gup2)
Required Form: Palgwe 8. Sparring: 16

Probationary Blackbelt(Probie)
The rank of Provisional Black Belt or Probie is awarded to the student who has satisfied all of the testing requirements up to Red Belt/Black Stripe. During the provisional period, the student is prepared for the 1st Dan Black Belt test, which includes a written essay.
Required Form: Palgwe 8/Koryo. Sparring: However many the blackbelts tell you.
